Phat Bowl VIII is Christmas Weekend!!!

It's Murphy vs. Wes this weekend! 1 vs. 2! The Upstart vs. the Dynasty ...

Phat Bowl VIII ...

(1) Mad Dog vs. (2) Ramshaft Raiders - According to the Yahoo! Week 16 Predictions, this final fantasy match should be a close one. It's Murphy's big-play receivers vs. Wes's elite quarterbacks!

QB Matchup - (MD) Garrard, Cassel, Stafford, & Sanchez vs. (RR) Peyton, McNabb, & Henne ...

Wes's duo of Peyton & McNabb gives him a huge advantage over whichever 2 QBs Murphy ends up starting. I think its Garrard & Cassel for Mad Dog right now, with a chance that you start Stafford (at QB2), if healthy.

WR Matchup - (MD) DeSean, Austin, Moss, & Rice vs. (RR) Manningham, Chambers, Hester, & Visanthe

This is Mad Dog's strength ... Big-play Receivers! Any of his trio of starting receivers could score 20+pts on any given Sunday. Wes has a set of receivers who will all score around 10pts consistently, but they don't have quite the upside.

RB Matchup - (MD) Moreno, Jacobs, Turner, & Choice vs. (RR) Jamaal Charles, Grant, DeAngelo, Felix, & Bradshaw

This is where Wes has to prove his fantasy prowess. Mad Dog will be starting Moreno & Jacobs this weekend, with a chance that Turner starts at RB2, if healthy. Personally, I don't know if I play Turner, even if he does start. An FFL Championship is a lot to bet on a gimpy ankle. Meanwhile, Wes has 5 RBs that must be whittled down to two for this weekend. Ya gotta start Charles no matter what. I see Wes's RB2 as a choice between Grant, DeAngelo (if healthy), or Bradshaw. I think Jamaal Charles is the best RB on the field this weekend, so I would have to give the edge in the backfield to Wes's Raiders.

SpT Matchup - (MD) Clark, Akers, NO & NE Ds vs. (RR) Celek, Longwell, MIN & NYG Ds

This matchup is pretty even ... Dallas Clark vs. Celek ... Even! Akers vs. Longwell ... Even! ... So that means it comes down to the DEFs. I like both Ds to score well this weekend, as both squads are coming off of bad losses in Week 15. If I had to pick one over the other, I would have to pick Murphy & the NO D ... The Saints are at home (after a loss), facing the Bucs. Can you say statement game.

So who does the Schwam pick to win it all in 2009? ... Mad Dog takes his first Phat Bowl!!! (see the play on words, there ... HAHAHA)

I'm willing to sidebet on this match ... Any takers?

Dreams of a Phat Bowl ...

The Phat Bowl looks like it is starting to crystalize with only MNF yet to play ...

Mad Dog leading Demmelitions (138-115) ... Demmel's inaction to replace Rackers this weekend may cause him a trip to the Phat Bowl. I mean, does Demmel knows that he has 2 non-active Kickers on his roster (Rackers has a groin injury & Carney was replaced a couple weeks back). With (Murph) Jacobs vs. (Demmel) Hakeem Nicks playing tonight, it will take a minor miracle for Demmel to pull-out the "W". On the flipside, Murph's squad had a great weekend with 4 players scoring 20+pts and 6 players in double-digits.

Ramshafts Raiders lead J$ (117-90) ... With a 27pt deficit heading into MNF, Jilbert needs a monster game from Santana Moss and for Wes's only remaining player, Manningham, to score nothing. Jilbert needed his QBs (Alex Smith or Cutler) to do something this weekend, which they did not (a combined 4pts will not cut it)! The Raiders scored about what was expected, but no one's on J$'s squad ended up with a big day, as was needed.

So unless some crazy things go down tonight, Phat Bowl VIII is looking like a 1 vs. 2 showdown starting on Christmas Day Friday (... First Week 16 game is SD @ TEN on Friday, 12/25).

On a sidenote, I have a 19.74pt lead in another fantasy playoffs and my opposition has Quinton Ganther (WAS-RB) playing tonight. My team is done playing (105.84pts total) ... What do ya think my chances are of advancing?

That's all I got for now ... Get ready for MNF and the Phat Bowl over Christmas!

Week 15 Preview ...

With a spot in the Phat Bowl on the line, Da Schwam previews this weekend's matchups ...

(1) Mad Dog vs. (5) Demmelitions - According the Yahoo! Matchup Projections, this should be a very close weekend ... QBs - Demmel's duo of Brady & Rodgers rules over all. Stafford could be a QB2 for Mad Dog this weekend, if healthy. Otherwise, Murph's choice of starting Garrard & Cassel seem to be right on ... WRs - Edge goes to Demmel here, starting two elite receivers (Wayne & Andre Johnson) and Hakeem Nicks (who is on quite a hot-streak the past month). Mad Dog's trio is still pretty good with Rice, DeSean, & Randy Moss. These 3 have the upside to make this weekend very exciting ... RBs - Like the receivers, I give Demmel the edge here, but again, Mad Dog is a very close second. Demmel is starting Thomas Jones & Addai, while Murphy has Moreno & Jacobs ... SpT - How funny is it that Demmel has two Kickers on his roster, yet both are injured! Since Demmel is a K down, I will give this category to Mad Dog with Miller, Akers, & NE D ... SCHWAMI SAYZ DEMMELITIONS IN THE UPSET!!!

(2) Ramshafts Raiders vs. (3) J$ - This is a true "Clash of the Titans" ... McNabb & Peyton vs. AP & CJ!!! ... QBs - Edge Raiders with Peyton & McNabb (over J$'s Cutler & Alex Smith) ... WRs - In what appears to be the wildcard in this matchup, how each team's receivers do this week may go a long way in determining who makes it to the Phat Bowl. Da Schwam does not think too highly of either trio. Wes has the more consistent corp (with Manningham, Chambers, & Visanthe), while Jilbert has more upside (with Roddy, Jennings, & Santana Moss). I'm gonna call this one even ... RBs - Edge J$ with AP & CJ over whichever 2 players Wes decides to start this Sunday. I'm not sure about leaving DeAngelo on the bench, in favor of Grant ... SpT - I will give Wes a slight edge here with a better TE (Celek) than Jilbert (Winslow) ... SCHWAMI SAYZ RAMSHAFTS RAIDERS IN THE PHAT BOWL (again ...?!?!)!!!

Good luck to all fantasy owners ...

... And the Division Championships are set!

Da Schwam went 1-1 this past week ... Gellis ends up losing by a mere 2pts., while Chad failed to mount a comeback last night as his remaining duo of Warner & Hightower combined for -2pts.

Gellis was so close to pulling out the "W" last night. He needed to overcome a 16pt deficit heading into MNF (with Fitzgerald/Gore vs. Alex Smith) ... Gore got the big game he needed (24pts), but the entire ARZ O stalled last night, which left Fitzy with a measly 2pts. The only ARZ player that did anything was Beanie Wells.

The horrid ARZ O also hurt the SoCal Strikers hopes ... Chad needed a big game from the Cards' O last night (as Chad had a 27pt deficit to overcome) and WOW, did Warner and the boys not deliver! With Warner & Hightower combining for -2pts., Demmel actually increased his lead with Rackers measly 3pts.

Da Schwamz stats after Week 14 ... ESPN Pigskin Pick 'Em 118-90 ... ESPN Eliminator Challenge 13-1 (Lost KC upset over PIT in Week 11) ... Yahoo! FFL Picks 28-22

And now, the NDHFFL Division Championships (Week 15) are set ...

(1) Mad Dog vs. (5) Demmelitions

(2) Ramshafts Raiders vs. (3) J$

Who will make it to the Phat Bowl?

Pre-MNF Wildcard Weekend Update ...

With the ARZ @ SF game still to be played, the Week 14 playoff picture is starting to take shape ...

Going into tonight's game, Jilbert holds a 16pt lead over Gellis ... J$ has Alex Smith playing vs. Gellis's remaining duo of Fitzgerald & Gore ... Gellis is still very much in this game.

In the other wildcard matchup, Demmel may have 27pt lead over Chad's Strikers, but this match is anything but over ... Chad has Warner & Hightower tonight, while Demmel has Rackers ... Chad is still very much in this game, as well.

MNF will be an interesting game to watch with the fantasy playoffs on the line ...

NDHFFL Playoffs - Wildcard Weekend

With Mad Dog & the Raiders on a Bye, it's time for Da Schwam to preview the pair of Wildcard matchups in Week 14 ... Da Schwamz record has been respectable all season (109-83 against the spread in ESPN Pick 'Em & 27-21 in Yahoo! FFL Picks)

(3) J$ vs. (6) Gellis -- QBs - Gotta give the edge to Gellis here. Favre is an elite option this season, while Hasselbeck is a better option (@HOU) over Orton (@IND). Jilbert's duo of Cutler & Alex Smith could go off. If they do, Jilbert could score 150 this weekend and Gellis will be in trouble; WRs - J$'s Roddy, Jennings, & Santana vs. Gellis's Fitzgerald, MSW, & Steve "Big City" Smith ... Gotta go to Gellis here. Larry Fitzgerald is quality and MSW should go off this weekend (he was a dud last weekend); RBs - CJ & AP ... No question! CJ is @STL, to boot! I'm a bit surprised Gellis is starting Gore this weekend over Benson. I mean Gore has been a dud, since the Niners went to a Spread O; SpT - Gellis gets the checkmark with Witten being a big advantage over Jilbert's Winslow. (Gellis) Hartley & TEN D is even with (J$) Gostkowski & PIT D ... SCHWAMI SAYZ GELLIS IN WEEK 14!!!

(4) SoCal Strikers vs. (5) Demmelitions -- In the previous 2 matchups between these fantasy rivals, Chad had won each contest by over 25pts. Can Chad make it a clean sweep? Possibly, but you can't count out Demmel with Brady & Rodgers ... QBs - With Brady & Rodgers, Demmel definitely gets the edge here. I think the Strikers will start Warner, but QB2 (either Big Ben or Eli) may end up being a crucial fantasy decision this weekend; WRs -Again, gotta go with the quality of Demmel's trio of Andre Johnson, Wayne, & Driver over Chad's starters. Although Chad does have a shot with a redhot Meachem, picking your poison with the Chargers receivers (Gates or Vincent Jackson), and Mason playing DET at home; RBs - Demmel gets the checkmark in the backfield with Thomas Jones & Addai, but Chad could make it a game if he picks the right RB2 (Forte, Stewart, or Hightower) to start alongside Ricky this weekend; SpT - Demmel for the sweep with Miller, Rackers, and GB D. The Strikers have a higher quality TE in Gonzo, and just about all fantasy kickers are created equal, but I do not like Chad starting the DEN D (@IND) in Week 14. I would take either D in the WAS @ OAK matchup over DEN this weekend ... SCHWAMI SAYZ DEMMELITIONS FOR THE WIN!!! (Third time's a charm, right ...)

That's all I got for now ... Enjoy the excitement of the fantasy playoffs!

Looking back at the Final Weekend 'N Da Hood ...

So lets break down this weekend's action into the 2 most important aspects ...

Division Championships ...

Wes has been in Colts-mode for the better-part of the past 2 weekends, since locking up the Northend Division crown in Week 11 ... As for the Southside crown, it appears to come down to Ray Rice tonight. Gellis needs 37pts from Rice to secure the division title. In the event of a tie or a Mad Dog victory, Murphy would win his franchise's first division crown.

Playoff Picture ...

Raiders have earned a Bye in Week 14, but if Wes loses this weekend, he could see himself slip to #2 in the rankings, as the winner of the Mad Dog-Gellis matchup would end up being the #1 seed (by overall points tiebreaker).

As for Mad Dog & Gellis, I have already mentioned their position ... Win and they are the division champs & earn a bye next weekend.

Demmel still has 3 players tonight (Rodgers, Driver, & GB D), so a 53pt deficit is not out of the question to overcome ... If Demmel wins tonight, he is the #3 seed ... A loss, 6th place (probably).

The Strikers look to be cruising to a Week 13 "W", which would mean that Chad's final playoff position will be determined by the results of the Demmelitions ... If Demmel loses, Chad would end up in 5th place ... If Demmel were to pull-out the victory, then Chad would end up in 6th place.

With a 2pt. lead & Jennings playing tonight, it appears that J$ has all but locked up his seat in the playoffs. Assuming Jilbert wins this weekend, then he will end up either 4th or 5th place, depending on the outcome of Chad's matchup, as well as Demmel's.

Things don't look good for Snapp ... He needed either Chad or J$ to lose this weekend, as well as overcome a huge point deficit. Snapp still has Flacco & Crosby playing tonight, so in the end, Snapp may end up getting close in points, but will be a 1-game off.

REALLY ME ... REALLY???!?!?! Once I am mathematically out of the playoffs, I score 125pts+ a week and go 3-0 ... SWEET!!!

Felicia ends the season respectably ... Just not the Year of La Chica.

As for Burton, I really wish he woulda at least started active players in his lineup ... You don't need to go and pickup players, but at least start the ones who are active on Week 13 rosters (i.e. Vick & Jackson for Bulger & Westbrook this weekend). That woulda made the matchup with Jilbert that much more exciting.

Good luck to all and we will start talking playoffs tomorrow ...

NDHFFL Week 13 Preview

With the start of final regular season weekend about to start, Da Schwam needs to get his picks in now ...

Da Gun vs. Demmelitions - I think Demmel is a huge favorite on paper, but with nothing to lose, my squad can beat anyone on any given Sunday ... NO PICK!

Snapp Attack vs. Phockers - Snapp needs PTs this weekend to have any chance at the playoffs ... And he may need 150+pts to get a "W" over a stacked Phockers lineup ... Rivers/LT/SD D @CLE, Schaub @JAX, Ward v.OAK, and Frenchy @WAS ... SCHWAMI SAYZ SNAPPER (in a fantasy shootout to end the regular season)!

J$ vs. Burtonics - Do I need to even pick a winner in this one (since both are losers ... :P) ... I am even willing make a sidebet with Burton that AP/CJ/Cutler will outscore his entire starting lineup this weekend ... SCHWAMI SAYZ J$!

Mad Dog vs. Gellis - This is for the Division Championship (and a Week 14 Bye)! I think this may be the matchup of the week ... QBs favor Gellis; WRs favor Murphy; RBs are even; and SpT are pretty even ... I think this match could be decided by some critical GTD ... Should Mad Dog start NE or NO D? Will Tynes be kicking for Big Blue this weekend? Which WRs & RBs will Gellis start? ... SCHWAMI SAYZ GELLIS!

Strikers vs. Raiders - I think Chad's growing IR List (Warner, Big Ben, Eli, CAR QB, Stewart, etc.) will be his downfall this week. He just doesn't appear to have enough firepower to overcome a Raiders squad at full-strength ... SCHWAMI SAYZ RAMSHAFTS RAIDERS!

Enjoy the game tonight! ... From Toronto, eh!!!

In the Homestretch ...

With the playoffs less than 2 weeks away, it's time for Da Schwam to take stock of the league ...

This FFL season has been very much "up & down" for me ... While I will finish the NDHFFL season in 8th place, I have locked-up 2nd place in my work-league, and will be fighting for the regular season title in yet another FFL league ... I was knocked-out of my Eliminator League in Week 11, when KC upset PIT ... As for my Pick 'Em League this season, I am currently in the 98th percentile (100-76 vs. the Spread) ... As for Da Schwamz Fantasy Picks this season, I have been rather ordinary (25-19 overall).

As for the Week 12 fantasy matchups ...

Da Gun destroys Mad Dog (154-89) -- It's not me that's good ... It's Brees! He's good!

Snapp crushes Burtonics (120-70) -- No big surprise here ... I mean Burton started Westbrook & Bulger who were known to be out this weekend on the Friday before.

J$ defeats Raiders (114-97) -- Jilbert has a tough team to beat when AP & CJ both start racking up the pts.

Demmelitions end Phockers' Playoff Hopes (119-101) -- Felicia had a chance, but the lack of production by her receivers killed her.

Gellis defeats Strikers (99-89) -- If Chad had picked up & started Leinart this weekend, Chad woulda won ... But he didn't and the Strikers lost.

Here is my fantasy outlook as the final regular season weekend approaches ...

1) Ramshafts Raiders (9-3) - With Mad Dog's loss in Week 12 (... Thanks Ebo! From Wes), Wes clinched a first-round Bye. If he wins in Week 13 (v. SoCal Strikers), Wes will clinch the #1 overall seed.

2) Mad Dog (8-4) - Murph will clinch a first-round Bye with a win this weekend (v. Gellis). If he loses, the Southside Division race gets very interesting with 3 teams trailing at 7-5.

3) Demmelitions (7-5) - Demmel is actually locked-out of getting a top-2 seed in the playoffs because of the Mad Dog vs. Gellis matchup ... If Demmel wins this weekend, he will probably lockup the #3 seed. With a loss, Demmel could fall to the 5th or 6th spot.

4) Gellis (7-5) - This Week 13 matchup is for the division title and $100 cash money!!! If Gellis wins this weekend, he will be the Southside Division Champ (since he ends up with more pts. than Chad and better division records than Murph or Demmel).

5) J$ (7-5) - Mathematically, Jilbert could end up with the 3rd seed with a "W" this weekend (he would need Demmel, Gellis, and Chad to lose) ... In actuality, win or lose, Jilbert will probably end up as the 4th or 5th seed, depending on the outcomes of the other 7-5 teams.

6) SoCal Strikers (7-5) - Chad needs to win this weekend to guarantee his playoff birth. If he loses, that will open up the door for Snapp to make the playoffs.

7) Snapp Attack (6-6) - Snapp needs to win and for Chad to lose this weekend to even have a shot at the playoffs ... It may be a long shot, but anything is possible! Remember the US team at the Confed Cup earlier this year.

8) Da Gun (4-8) - I'm all about ruining playoff dreams right now ... Gellis - CHECK! ... Mad Dog - CHECK! ... Next Up - Demmel.

9) Phockers (4-8) - Snapp needs major pts this week and La Chica is looking to put up a big number this weekend (Rivers/LT @ CLE, Schaub @ JAX, etc.).

10) Burtonics (1-11) - Maybe I should just give the "W" to Jilbert now ...

That's all I got for now ... I'll preview the Week 13 matchups tomorrow.

Looking back at Week 11's Sunday Action ...

Da Gun upset the playoff contending Gold Club (126-123) -- Well, it came down to the final drive of SNF ... And with the Philly INT to end the game inside of 2min, my squad locked up the "W" ... The loss will slide Gellis down to 5th place (in all likelihood).

Raiders outlast Snapp (112-104) -- Snapp missed a golden opportunity this weekend to get back in the thick of the playoff race. However, Wes had other ideas in the second leg of the "A-Town Derby" ... With the "W", Wes has all but locked up the Northend Division (with 2 weeks left in the regular season) ... Snapp is still in the playoff picture, but he is kinda like the Niners. At this point, he is on the outside looking in.

J$ trails Mad Dog (128-87) -- Jilbert needs 42pts from CJ tonight to pull-out a victory from his former Hostel-mate. I guess anything is possible after Murphy gets 41pts from Stafford ... If Murph maintains his lead, he will remain atop the Southside division with a 1-game lead over a pack that will be diminished to 1-team (with 2 of the 3 chasing teams losing this weekend) ... Look out in Week 12 Mad Dog! I looking to spoil your division title dreams!

Phockers still have a heart beat after win over Burtonics (leading 101-67) -- I guess 35pts from Slaton tonight is a possibility, but I like Felicia's chances to still remain in the playoff chase ... If she ends up beating Burton this weekend, coupled with Jilbert & Snapp losses, she is now 2-games back from the 6th seed (with 2 games left vs. Demmel & Snapp).

Strikers up big over rival Demmelitions (152-112) -- Like I said before, I guess anything is possible after watching Stafford light up the fantasy scoreboard with 41pts, which is what Demmel needs from Andre Johnson to earn the "W" this weekend ... If the outcome remains, Chad will move up to the #3 seed (and 2nd place in his division), while Demmel would fall to 4th place in the standings.

Playoff Outlook (based on predicted Week 11 results) ...

1. Ramshafts Raiders (9-2) -- With a mere 1-game & 4pt lead over Mad Dog, Wes has locked up his division and is now in a race vs. Mad Dog for the regular season title. A win, coupled with a Mad Dog loss, in Week 12 will secure the Raiders the top-seed.

2. Mad Dog (8-3) -- Murphy is a mere 1-game (& a mere 4pts) back from Wes in the regular-season title race ... That makes Week 12 crucial for Murphy ... Wanna sidebet, Murph?

3. SoCal Strikers (7-4) -- As the most likely winner of the "SoCal Derby", Chad looks to end up as the sole team at 7-4 ... The interesting part of Chad's FFL record is, that due to his lack of overall points, he will either be 3rd or 6th place, with the glut of 6-5 teams, all of which beat him on points.

4. Demmelitions (6-5) -- With over 1300pts, Demmel should remain atop the glut of 6-5 teams battling for playoff position.

5. Yo Mamma call you Gold Club (6-5) -- With a 50pt. lead over Jilbert, Gellis will most likely end up in the fifth spot.

6. J$ (6-5) -- Jilbert is lucky that Snapp also lost this weekend, as he maintains his tenuous hold over the final playoff spot.

Chase Pack ... Snapp Attack (5-6) & Phockers (4-7) -- Both squads now need to win out in order to remain in the playoff hunt ... That should make things interesting as they face-off in Week 13.

Playing for Pride ... Da Gun (3-8) & Burtonics (1-10) -- These are your spoilers ... I'm taking sidebets on any of my remaining matches (Week 12 - Mad Dog & Week 13 - Demmelitions)! Any interest?

That's all I got for now ...

Da Schwamz Week 11 Picks ...

I need to make my Yahoo! FFL Week 11 Picks prior to tonight's game ... I plan to provide a more comprehensive preview tomorrow.

BTW ... This weekend is 'Rivalry Week' for the NDHFFL

"Apt. 14 Derby"(Da Gun vs. Gellis) -- N/A

"A-Town Derby" (Snapp vs. Raiders) -- Taking the upset here ... Snapp Attack!

"The Hostel Derby" (J$ vs. Mad Dog) -- AP & CJ ... All Sunday! ... Schwami sayz J$ in Week 11!

"Phat Bowl VII - Part 2" (Phockers vs. Burtonics) -- Frenchy breathes new life to Felicia's squad ... Phockers to win!

"The Real Derby of OC" (Strikers vs. Demmelitions) -- Tough call ... My gut says Demmel!

'N Da Homestretch ...

So 2009 was a fun FFL season ... NOT!!! 2-8!!! UUGGGGHHHHH!!!

Please remember that the Trade Deadline is this Friday (Nov. 20th), which means that any/all trades need to be agreed to & completed by Friday 11:59pm PST.

Da Schwam went 4-0 in Week 10 (24-16 Overall) ... On the flipside, I finally had a losing week in Pigskin Pick 'Em, going 4-11 for Week 10 (81-69 Overall) ... And I am still in my Eliminator League with the Vikes in Week 10.

Now lets take a look at Da League ...

1. Ramshafts Raiders (8-2) - Wes looks like a lock for a top-2 seed in the playoffs with a commanding 2-game lead in his division.

2. Mad Dog (7-3) - I kinda look at Murphy like the Tennessee Titans in 2008 ... I think he wins the Southside Division, but will then lose in his first playoff game. His team is not built to last.

3. Demmelitions (6-4) - Possibly the most dangerous fantasy team in our league ... With Brady, Rodgers, Wayne, & AJ, Demmel has the possibility of putting up huge points on any given Sunday.

4. Gold Club (6-4) - With probably the best team (top-to-bottom, all 16 roster players) in the league, Gellis is in the glut of teams vying for playoff position.

5. J$ A$$ Kickers (6-4) - Jilbert has the only squad that still has a shot at the Northend Division (other than Wes, of course) ... For J$, his team will only go as far as AP & CJ will take them.

6. SoCal Strikers (6-4) - Chad is in the thick of a 4-team battle for the Southend Division title and his squad is starting to heat up ... Ricky Williams will be starting this weekend (Ronnie Brown is nursing an ankle injury) ... "Southern" Steve Smith is showing signs of life (2TDs in Week 10) ... Vincent Jackson has become an elite WR this season ... And Jonathan Stewart is now playable.

7. Snapp Attack (5-5) - This week is gonna be key for Snapp as he is trailing a 4-pack of 6-4 teams in the chase for the playoffs ... Also, Week 11 is "Rivalry Week" (which just so happens to align with the NCAA Football Rivalry Week), making the A-Town Derby that much more important for Snapp's fans (i.e. Nikki & Oliver).

8. Phockers (3-7) - The reigning champ needs to run the table from here on out to even have a shot at the playoffs ... And to make matters worse, Ronnie Brown suffered an ankle injury and is questionable to play in Week 11 ... Talk about "Behind the 8-Ball"!

9. Tokubo Shogunate (2-8) - Although, I am out of the playoff race, I will still try my best to play the spoiler these final 3 weekends (as I face 3 teams in the playoff picture - Gellis, Murphy, & Demmel).

10. Burtonics (1-9) - Time to look to 2010 ... I'm guessing AP, Peyton, or Brady.

I would also like to mention the rash of injuries to key fantasy starters in Week 10, which should create a lot of activity on the Waiver Wire tonight ...

- Michael Turner (ankle)
- Brian Westbrook (concussion)
- Cedric Benson (hip)
- Julius Jones (chest)
- Ronnie Brown (ankle)
- Kyle Orton (ankle)

That's all I got to say about Week 10 ... Now, onto Week 11!!!

Da Schwam's Pre-MNF Review of Week 10

WOW! Talk about a bad weekend ... I spent 12hrs flying to Atlanta on Sunday (with a 3+hr layover in Philly) and then have to see how horrid my Sunday had gone ... I went 4-9 on Sunday in ESPN's Pigskin Pick 'Em and ended up losing my FFL match by 60+pts ... SWEET!!! :P

So lets take a look at this weekend's fantasy matches ...

Demmel crushes Da Gun (138-72) -- ABSOLUTE DOMINATION! Demmel woulda beat me with only Brady, Rodgers, & Wayne (who combined for 73pts) ... At this point, my only shot of remaining fantasy relevent is for the Phockers to defeat Gellis, as then the 6th (and final) playoff spot would be a 5-5 team. On the other hand, Demmel has secured the 3rd seed going into the final 3 regular season games.

J$ has all but earned a "W" over Snapp (102-52) -- Unless Flacco can score 50+pts tonight, then Snapp will fall to 5-5 and into a dogfight for the final playoff spot. Snapp - I feel your pain, dawg! ... With this victory, Jilbert secures his place in the playoff hunt, as he will end up in 5th or 6th place after tonight, depending on the outcome of the Gold Club v. Phockers match.

Mad Dog leads SoCal Strikers (111-87) -- With the division lead on the line, Chad needs Mason to score 35pts. for the "W" ... It's possible, expecially if Flacco goes for 50! ;) ... Dropping the Cincy D (for BUF D?!?) may cost Chad at the end of the day. CIN D scored 19pts. on Sunday, which Chad coulda really used ... And credit to Murphy?!?! Eeehhhh, not really ... He didn't start any particularly crazy players (i.e. Burton starting Vick). In fact, if I was to say anything, I would point out the fact that you left Sidney Rice (23pts) on your bench.

Phockers hold marginal lead over Gold Club (108-97) -- With only Ray Rice yet to play, this fantasy matchup has all kinds of playoff implications ... If Felicia wins, it's a 9-team playoff race (with Felicia a mere 1-game back from the playoff race) ... If Gellis gets the "W", I can start focusing on fantasy bball (Anyone want to trade up for the #2 pick in the 2010 Draft?)

Raiders cruising past Burtonics (128-86) -- With Willis McGahee (Seriously Burton?!?! Starting Willis McGahee?!?!?) left to (technicall) play tonight, can I just call this one now? McGahee hasn't had double-digit carries since Week 2.

That's all I got for now ...

NDHFFL Week 10 Preview

Since the first NFL game of the week is played on Thursday night, I have to get Da Schwamz preview & analysis completed today ...

With 4 weeks left in the regular (fantasy) season, here is how the playoff picture is shaping up ...

- Wes holds a commanding 2-game lead in the Northend Division
- There is a wild 4-team race for the Southside Division title
- 7 teams is a race for 6 playoff spots
- Felicia still has an outside shot at making the playoffs
- Da Gun is looking to play spoiler in the last month of the fantasy regular season
- Burton is now researching who to pick in 2010 ... AP or Peyton?!?

Now lets have Da Schwam take a look at the Week 10 matchups ...

Demmelitions (5-4) vs. Da Gun (2-7) -- In this 1st (of 2) inter-division matchups late in the season, this represents my best shot of making the playoffs ... QBs - Slight edge to Demmel with Peyton & Rodgers, but just slightly as I have Brees (@STL) & Matty Ice (although recently the "Ice" moniker is not a good one) ... WRs - Even without AJ this weekend, Demmel should still have the edge here with Wayne, Driver, +1. That's a better trio than whichever 3 receivers I start this weekend ... RBs - I think I have a slight edge in the backfield this weekend with S-Jax & Frenchy starting. Well, at least, better than Addai & Thomas Jones ... SpT - Pretty Even across the board here ... SCHWAMI SAYZ --> NO PICK!

Snapp Attack (5-4) vs. J$ (5-4) -- This is a big game for both squads with huge playoff implications! ... QBs - This matchup is all over the place, as all 4 projected starters are gambles this weekend. For Snapp, we have Flacco (@CLE, where he could throw for 5TDs or none as Rice has a huge day) & Palmer (@PIT ... Top D ... Nuf said!), while Jilbert has Cutler (@SF ... Does the SF D show up?) & Alex Smith (v.CHI ... Again, does the D show up?). If I had to pick a winner from these 2 sides, I would have to go with Snapp's duo. I just do not trust the CHI @ SF game to put up many points ... WRs - Tie here with (Snapp) Colston, Santonio, & Braylon vs. (Jilbert) Roddy, Jennings, & Santana ... RBs - I don't like MB3's inconsistency & the Jags have been hit or miss on the road this season. Plus, Jilbert has CJ & AP ... Advantage J$! ... SpT - Even matchup here ... I like Davis this week (for Snapp), but Jilbert has the PIT D ... SCHWAMI SAYZ --> J$ KICKS SOME ASS!

SoCal Strikers (6-3) vs. Mad Dog (6-3) -- WOW! Murphy at 6-3 and in the playoff hunt! What is this fantasy world coming to?!?! ... QBs - (Chad) Warner & Big Ben at home this weekend ... Advantage Chad! ... WRs - I think this may be key positional matchup this weekend, between these 2 squads. I think its close, but if I had to pick a side, I would choose Mad Dog with DeSean, Austin, & Randy Moss. That trio is simply better than "Southern" Steve Smith, V-Jax, & Mason ... RBs - I gotta go with Murphy's backfield of Turner & Moreno over Chad's duo of Forte & Hightower ... SpT - WOW! Talk about the stars aligning here ... Murphy has got studs at both TE (Dallas Clark) & DEF (NO D @ STL) this weekend ... SCHWAMI SAYZ --> MAD DOG IN A HARD FOUGHT MATCH!

Gellis (5-4) vs. Phockers (3-6) -- First off, I refuse to call Gellis, Phil Ivey! Now, "RIP Aerosmith"?!? You gotta check your facts (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8355485.stm) ... "Your momma call you Gold Club, I'm gonna call you Gold Club!" ... QBs - Advantage Gellis! But not by as wide of a margin as one would think. I see Rivers vs. Hasselbeck being about even, which would leave Favre vs. Campbell. Favre has a cake matchup (v.DET), while Campbell faces Denver (at home, coming off a Bye). I'll give it to Favre, but not by much, imho ... WRs - I'll call this matchup even! (Felicia) Housh, Welker, Ward vs. (Gellis) Fitzgerald, Coles, MSW ... RBs - Gellis has the edge here with whatever 2 RBs (out of Rice, Gore, Benson) he decides to start. For La Chica, LT is looking old, while Ronnie remains consistently inconsistent ... SpT - Gellis gets the edge here with another nice DEF flier. This week it is the MIA D (v.TB) ... SCHWAMI SAYZ --> GELLIS!

Raiders (7-2) vs. Burtonics (1-8) -- Not even worth my time ... SCHWAMI SAYZ --> RAMSHAFTS RAIDERS IN A BLOWOUT!

Please don't forget that the first NFL game of Week 10 is CHI @ SF on Thursday evening with a 5:20pm kickoff.

Also, the trade deadline is fast approaching (11/20) , so please plan accordingly ...

That's all I got for now ...

NDHFFL Week 9 In-Review

With Week 9 now in the books, the fantasy playoff picture is becoming clear ... Wes has nearly a full two-game lead in the Northend Division, while Chad currently leads a foursome of contenders in the Southside Division!

And now, it's time for Da Schwam to give his take on the fantasy matchups from Week 9 ...

Strikers cruise past Da Gun (117-98) ... Led by Warner & Big Ben, who combined for 8TDs, Chad all but eliminated any hopes I had of making the playoffs with his victory this weekend. Da Gun had some nice flier performances from JJ & Breaston, but my core group (Brees & Matty Ice) just didn't perform on Sunday ... I'm in no way giving up, especially since I have 4 division games left to play (i.e. Beware of Playoff Spoiler)!!!

Demmelitions outlast Snapp Attack (113-94) ... At the end of the weekend, Demmel's superstars (Rodgers, Brady, & Addai) performed, while Snapp's boyz (Flacco & Colston) just simply did not! Snapp did make a nice flier pickup of SEA D (22pts) to keep the match close, but just didn't have enough quality at the end of the day.

J$ crushes Burtonics (147-35) ... With his absolute humiliation of Burton, Jilbert surged to 2nd place in his division. Meanwhile, Burton continues his journey towards the overall #1 pick in next year's fantasy draft ... REALLY! REALLY?!?! That's your Week 9 lineup?!? You pick up a K on Sunday morning (and place him in your lineup), but then leave Marshall, Portis, & Slaton on your bench, while starting Cooley (Ankle), Westbrook (Concussion), & McGahee (No carries) ... REALLY!!?!

Mad Dog outlasts Gellis (140-130) ... Gellis just couldn't muster the dozen points his team needed to win on MNF (with Orton scoring a measly 1pt). On the other side, Murphy had an absolutely terrific weekend with 7 players in double-digits.

Phockers lose the 2nd home & home match to the Raiders (120-103) ... And with this win, Wes is sleeping on the couch for the next week :) ... But seriously, Wes is like the real Colts or Saints, as now his squad is doing just enough to win each week. The Phockers fall to 3-6 with the slightest window still open to the playoffs for the ex-champ.

Da Schwam went 3-1 this weekend (20-16 overall) ... I'm still alive in my Eliminator league (and looking at either Vikes or Ravens for Week 10) ... I fell out of the 99th percentile (currently, 98.8) in my Pigskin Pick 'Em game, where I am now 77-58 for the season.

I will take a look at the upcoming Week 10 matchups later this week ...

NDHFFL Week 9 Preview

It's time for Da Schwam (who is 17-15 overall this season) to take a look at the Week 9 Matchups ...

Strikers (5-3) vs. Da Gun (2-6) -- Great! I need to make a run if I have any hope of making the playoffs and I get the SoCal Strikers ... I think my lineup has as good a chance as any to pull-off the "W", but I thought that last weekend ... SCHWAMI SAYZ --> NO PICK (Pete Rose Rule)

Snapp Attack (5-3) vs. Demmelitions (4-4) -- How will Demmel rebound after what can be considered the "bonehead move of the season" in Week 8? ... Here is what happened ... Demmel used his waiver position to pick-up Ryan Fitzpatrick as a 1-week flier & dropped Sanchez, with whom, he would have won and been atop the Southend Division ... REALLY DEMMEL!! REALLY!!! In what universe would you start Fitzpatrick over Sanchez?!? ... Anyway, onto Week 9 ... QBs - I'll pick Demmel here with Rodgers & Brady, although I do think Flacco & Palmer (Snapp Attack QBs) will make this matchup a lot closer than it appears to be on paper ... WRs - Again Demmel (with AJ, Wayne, & Driver) over Colston, Holmes, & Knox (for Snapp). I mean, Demmel has 3 Top-10 receivers starting! That's tough to beat. Also, I'm not a big Knox fan, but he is better than Roy "I'm Big-D's #1 WR" Williams! ... RBs - Snapp is best here (with MB3 & MJD)! Snapp has a quality combo that is better than Demmel's duo of Kevin "Not the Clerks Guy" Smith & whoever else ... SpT - I give a slight edge to Snapp here, with the list of Indy defensive injuries growing each day, and a hot Vernon Davis at home this weekend ... SCHWAMI SAYZ --> "Demmelitions in a very close, competitive match!"

J$ (4-4) vs. Burtonics (1-7) -- Do I even try and analyze this matchup or do I just continue to believe in the absolute fantasy incompetence of the Burtonics franchise?!? ... SCHWAMI SAYZ --> "J$ in a route!"

Mad Dog (5-3) vs. Adam "I won't call you Phil Ivery" Gellis (5-3) -- Seriously, Gellis?? SERIOUSLY??? At most, I would call you Jamie Gold!!!! Or what about Burton as Darvin Moon? ... Anywho, lets get back to some FFL action ... QBs - Advantage Gellis! Orton & Hasselbeck over Murphy's Garrard & Stafford! ... WRs - This is the positional matchup of the weekend, imho ... (Murph) DeSean, Miles Austin, & Randy Moss vs. (Gellis) "Big City" Steve Smith, Fitzy, & MSW ... Great positional matchup! I'm callin this one even ... I'm gonna just sit back and enjoy! ... RBs - Edge Gellis (with Ray Rice & Gore) over Murph (with BJ & Turner) ... SpT - I give Mad Dog a slight edge here, since I think he has a better TE (Dallas Clark over a struggling Witten) ... SCHWAMI SAYZ --> "JAMIE GOLD WINS THE 2006 WSOP!!!

Raiders (6-2) vs. Phockers (3-5) -- In the 2nd leg of this "True" Home & Home Matchup, you can throw out the pre-game analysis. This is a derby match, in the truest sense of the term ... QBs - Advanatage Raiders (with Peyton & Donovan) over the Phockers (Schaub & Rivers) ... WRs - Advantage Felicia, especially with the injury concern surrounding Wes's Manningham ... RBs - Gotta go Raiders here! I do not trust any of the Phockers' backfield options (LT, Ronnie Brown, & Reggie Kardashian-Bush) ... SpT - Pretty fair matchup this weekend ... SCHWAMI SAYZ --> "Ramshaft Raiders win!"

Here are some fun links to some current events ...

Phil Ivey Undercover

Lincecum is Burning!

Girls Soccer is a contact sport ...

Roy Williams is the #1 WR in Big-D?

That's all I got for this week. Good luck to everyone this weekend & please make your Yahoo! FFL Picks on the league website ...

If the NDHFFL was "The League" ...

So I saw the pilot episode of the new FX show, "The League", and thought I'd do a little comparison to our league ...

http://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/theleague/aboutTheShow.php

Pete (Me) - Not the greatest of fits, but they would have to be fantasy contenders each & every year.

Ruxin (Gellis or Snapp) - The guy in the league who will go to any length to gain a fantasy edge.

Taco (Burton) - I think in our league, Burton would be our Taco, especially after his "Speed of Burton" fantasy moves this season.

Andre (Jilbert or Murphy) - Both are contending for the title of worst fantasy player in the history of our league.

Jenny (Felicia) - I guess it only makes sense that Felicia would be our league's Jenny

Kevin (Wes or Demmel) - I guess that would make Wes, our Kevin, but I could also see Kevin (who Pete harasses about his wife, Jenny, actually running their team) being Demmel ... I mean how do we know that it hasn't been Robyn playing all these years?!?!

"Auto-drafters" (Chad & Demmel) - They make mention on the show of members in the league who are not present at the draft ... Thus, I would put Chad & Demmel in this category ... I mean, I think I talk to these guys maybe 2 times a year (once to make sure they are in the league & once to collect their $$).

Go check out the ep and let me know what you think ...

NDHFFL Week 8 In-Review

Da Schwam had a bad weekend all-the-way-around ... 1st losing week in Pigskin Pick 'Em (went 6-7 this weekend, against the spread) ... 1-3 in my FFL Predictions (17-15 in 2009) ... And the Shogunate fell to 2-6 for the season, which means I pretty much need to run the table these next 5 weeks to have a chance at the playoffs!

Snapp outlast Da Gun (117-96) -- UUUGGGGHHHH! Good game for Snapp as he is now firmly entrenched in the playoff picture (5-3) after his victory over my struggling fantasy squad.

J$ destroys the Phockers (149-76) -- "Welcome back to fantasy relevance, Chris Johnson!" ... Talk about a return to glory for Jilbert's boyz ... 7 starters in double-digits ... Jennings comes back to life ... I'm still not a big fan of his QB situation, but Jilbert should remain in the hunt with his backfield. The Phockers loss still leaves me 2 games out of the playoff pic, so that is good, i guess?!?

Raiders dealt crushing loss at the hands of Mad Dog (109-88) -- Wes's previous iron-clad grip atop the league table, seems to be fading quickly, as his lead has slipped to a mere 1-game (with four 5-3 teams nipping at his heels). It's not that Murphy had a great weekend, but more that Raiders' chinks are starting to show ... Manningham was inactive this past Sunday ... Owen Daniels is out for the season ... Wes picked up Holt on Sunday morning, but then played him instead of Shiancoe (when he shoulda started Holt in place of Manny, as his inactive status was known on Sunday morning, prior to 10am).

SoCal Strikers crush Burtonics (110-63) -- Burton does his best Dan Snyder impression by making a huge trade for Bulger & Slaton and then doesn't spend the time on Sunday to place them in the lineup ... Now I know it wouldn't have made a difference in the end score, but it does show a level of fantasy incompetence. If Burton loses this weekend (Week 9), he may be all but mathematically out of the playoff pic.

Gellis is the division leader after his defeat of the Demmelitions (123-105) -- This victory was won with the wiley pick-up of CHI D on Sunday morning by Gellis ... On the flipside, Demmel may have lost this weekend with his last minute move to pick-up Fitzpatrick (over Sanchez ... REALLY?!?!).

Anyway, that's it for this week (... good riddance) ... Now onto Week 9!

Looking back at Week 8 'N Da Hood ...

With only MNF left to play, lets take a look at the Week 8 fantasy results up 'til now ...

Snapp has comfortable lead over Da Gun heading into MNF (103-49) -- With (Snapp) Colston vs. (Ebo) Ryan, Brees, & Frenchy, I think that my squad is definitely behind the 8-ball, but don't count me out yet.

J$ cruising to an easy victory over the Phockers (132-69) -- With (J$) Roddy vs. (Felicia) Shockey tonight, Jilbert has all but locked up a "W" this weekend ... "Welcome back to fantasy relevance, Chris Johnson!"

Raiders hold tenious lead over Mad Dog (87-71) -- What happened to the Raiders' lineup? I saw that Manningham was inactive and then I saw Wes pick-up Holt ... But then you start Holt & Manny (instead of Shiancs & Holt). In the end, it would only be a 7pt difference, but that could be crucial with Murphy having Turner & NO D playing tonight.

Strikers maintain comfortable lead over Burtonics (102-63) -- Not that it makes a difference, but what is Burton doing with his team ... He trades for Slaton & Bulger, but then doesn't play them.

Gellis defeats Demmelitions (123-105) -- With this victory, Gellis should see himself move atop the Southside Division (with a 3-1 Div Record, Gellis should be the division leader going into Week 9 with the Overall Pts Advantage).

That's all I got for now ...

NDHFFL Week 8 Preview

It's time for Da Schwam to take a look at the Week 8 matchups in the NDHFFL ...

Da Gun (2-5) vs. Snapp Attack (4-3) -- In what is a "must win" game for my squad, I actually like how things are shaping up ... QBs - I definitely have the edge here (with Brees & Matty Ice) , especially with Palmer on a Bye for Snapp. This forces Snapper to start Henne in Carson's stead (along with Flacco) ... WRs - I think Snapp has a slight advantage here, since he has a true elite WR starting this week (Colston, Braylon, & Knox) with my WR1, "Esteban 85", playing golf this weekend (thus, forcing me to start Boldin, Burleson, & Breaston this week) ... RBs - I'll call this one a draw with a lot of unresolved questions - Is MB3 full strength? Is the TEN D gonna be back in form after a Bye? Will Frenchy be the feature back this weekend? Will S-Jax actually score a TD this week? ... SpT - I have the advantage here with Gates (v. OAK), Prater, & PHI D (v. NYG) over Snapp's starting trio of V-Diddy (@ IND), Crosby, & NYJ D (v. MIA) ... SCHWAMI SAYZ --> "OUTLOOK NOT SO CLEAR"!!!

J$ (3-4) vs. Phockers (3-4) -- In what should be a very competitive matchup with playoff implications, I actually like the Phockers this weekend ... QBs - Advantage Phockers! I'll take
Schaub & Rivers over (Jilbert's) Cutler & Alex Smith anyday ... WRs - Edge J$! Felicia is kinda scraping the bottom of the barrel by starting Cotchery, Housh, & Scheffler (W/T Flex). As for Jilbert, he is starting Roddy, Jennings, & Walter ... RBs - I will give Jilbert the edge here, as well, but it is very close, imho. I think AP vs. Ronnie Brown is about equal, in my mind, so it comes down to CJ vs. LT. I'm just not a believer in LT anymore (as he is quickly disproving that "30 is the new 25") ... SpT - Assuming that Felicia picks up a K for this weekend, I would give her the edge here with Shockey & SD D (v. OAK) over Keller, Folk, BAL D ... SCHWAMI SAYZ --> PHOCKERS!!!

Mad Dog (4-3) vs. Raiders (6-1) -- This is not a weekend that Murphy can afford to not start 2QBs as he faces the league leader ... QBs - Whoever Murphy ends up starting at QB2 (alongside Garrard), Wes still has the advantage here, starting Peyton & McNabb ... WRs - I give Murph the edge on the outside by starting DeSean, Austin, & Rice. Wes's starters have really cooled off in recent weeks (Manningham, Hester, & Visanthe) ... RBs - While I don't really like either starting backfield (since all of them have tough matchups this weekend), if I had to pick one side, I would pick Mad Dog's backs (Jacobs & Turner) over Wes's (DeAngelo & Grant). Mad Dog has the more talented backfield ... SpT - This matchup (Dallas Clark, Longwell, NO D vs. Owen Daniels, K. Brown, & MIN D) is pretty even, across the board ... SCHWAMI SAYZ --> RAMSHAFT RAIDERS!!!

Strikers (4-3) vs. Burtonics (1-6) -- Can you say blowout? That's what I see as Burtonics takes the field this weekend, and not in a good way for them ... QBs - Strikers here ... Check! Warner & Eli is better than Romo & whichever QB2 Burton starts ... WRs - Strikers here ... Check! Even starting the "Southern" Steve Smith (along with V. Jackson & Mason), is more than enough to matchup with whichever 3WRs Burton ends up starting (I would assume that he is not starting Crabtree & Bruce, but it is Burton so ...) ... RBs - Starting Hightower & Ricky will not win you very many weekends in fantasy, but it is better than whoever Burton ends up starting (Portis is on a Bye and Westbrook is gonna be out with a concussion, which leaves McGahee & Fred Jackson) ... SpT - Again, nothing spectacular in Chad's starters (Gonzo, Kaeding SF D), but better than whoever Burton can field (Cooley is out, Feely, & NYG D) ... SCHWAMI SAYZ --> SoCAL STRIKERS!!! (in Schwamz Lock of the Week)

"Fantasy Team formerly known as Gold Club" (4-3) vs. Demmelitions (4-3) -- This matchup is shaping up to be the fantasy match of the weekend ... QBs - Who's betting against Favre (@ GB) this weekend ... Not me! I give Gellis the edge here (with Favre & Hasselbeck) over Demmel's starters (Rodgers & "Dirty" ... I like that nickname better than "San-chise") ... WRs - If AJ plays, I would give the nod to Demmel (who is also starting Wayne & Driver), but if he doesn't, I give the matchup on the outside to Gellis (starting Fitzy, "Big City" Steve Smith, & MSW) ... RBs - Gotta go with the hothand here with the Demmelitions' backfield (Thomas Jones & K. Smith) over SS (Steve Slaton) & RR (Ray Rice) for Gellis's club ... SpT - Edge to Gellis with Witten, Tynes, & ARZ D over Carlson, Carney, & IND D for Demmel ... SCHWAMI SAYZ -->
("The Fantasy Team formerly known as Gold Club")!!!

That's all I got for now ... Please take a look at this weekend's matchups and make your Yahoo! Fantasy Picks ...
